Minett Elementary School Main Lobby

Updated design and naming of FISD Elementary School #43

Elementary school #43 was planned as part of the 2014 bond program, and it will relieve nearby elementary schools in the growing northwest corner of the school district. This area has seen increases in enrollment because of new homes being constructed in neighborhoods such as Somerset Park and Hollyhock. The school will open in the fall of 2022, with construction starting by this summer and attendance zones established this fall.

The elementary school will officially be named Buddy and Joni Minett Elementary School and be constructed northeast of FM 423 and Rockhill Parkway on a site adjacent to the Somerset Park and Hollyhock subdivisions. Last year, Frisco ISD decided that Minett Elementary School would be redesigned to accommodate modern learning environments. With the completion of the redesign/revisioning, plans are moving forward.

Buddy and Joni Minett Elementary School

At February’s regular Frisco ISD Board meeting, trustees approved the name of Buddy and Joni Minett Elementary School as the official name of elementary school #43 based on the recommendation of the FISD school naming committee. The name was chosen for two exemplary servant leaders who have left their own stamp on the Frisco community. More information about the school’s namesake can be found on the Frisco ISD website.

Minett Elementary Design

The reenvisioned design for Minett Elementary School was shown during a Frisco ISD Board meeting at the end of last year. It incorporated a lot of new ideas for collaborative and open workspaces. The design took into account feedback from board members, school staff, and parents. The architects also did a great job of looking at concepts not only locally but internationally to get fresh ideas on what works with modern teaching philosophies.

One particular area to note is the outdoor learning space. The concept that was created includes an area for performances, outdoor learning class, a shaded area, and even a weather station. This will definitely be a learning space that will inspire creativity and enthusiasm.
